If you’re pregnant, whether you planned it or not, this is big. If this is unplanned, you are facing one of the most important decisions of your life. What do you do now? No matter what anyone tells you, this is your choice, and it is not an easy one; you will be changed on the other side. You have three options in front of you: adoption, abortion, or parenting.  But how are you supposed to make this decision? What if you make the wrong one? What if you feel pressured by others in your life?

Take a deep breath. You can do this. Here at Starting Point Pregnancy & Family Resource Center, our goal is to compassionately listen to you and help you – with zero judgment. We are not here to tell you what to do with your life—no one can do that. Instead, we want to walk with you, no matter what path you choose.

#1 EDUCATE YOURSELF

YOUR PREGNANCY

If you think you’re pregnant, there are a few things that you’ll want to know.. First, you’ll want to confirm, am I actually pregnant?  If you haven’t already taken a pregnancy test, we are here to help with that. Regardless of your decision to adopt, abort or parent, an ultrasound can provide you with vital information you need to know about your pregnancy such as:

How far along you are- Gestational dating will impact the options available to you.

Location of the pregnancy- Ensuring the pregnancy is located in the uterus will rule out a dangerous ectopic pregnancy. This is important!

Pregnancy Viability- 1 in 4 pregnancies end in natural miscarriage.  While no one can say for sure that your pregnancy will progress to term, there are signs that show the pregnancy is not progressing as expected. You may not need to make a decision.

We are happy to perform an ultrasound to provide you with the information you need regarding your pregnancy.

YOUR OPTIONS

Now that you’re pregnant, you have three options: adoption, abortion, or parenting. Make sure you understand each one, and the practical outcomes of each decision. Confidence comes with knowledge based on accurate information, and knowledge is power. Our team will be there to inform and answer questions so that you can make the best decision for you.

#2 ASK YOURSELF THE HARD QUESTIONS

Life is hard and big decisions are never easy. This decision will impact your life, for the rest of your life. Before deciding, take time to think about each of your options separately. What do you like about each one – parenting, abortion, adoption? What do you dislike? What questions do you have? Do you feel you have all the information you need to make an informed decision? These questions are not easy, and you deserve to explore the answers for yourself.  We’re here to help.

#3 THINK ABOUT YOUR FUTURE

It’s impossible to predict the future, but it’s important to imagine what it could be like. A helpful step in making a difficult decision is to imagine what your life could be like if you chose a particular path. Ask yourself, if I choose this, what will my life look like in 5 years? Describe your future self from the perspective of each pregnancy outcome- abortion, adoption or parenting- then compare them. Which version of yourself do you want to be?

#4 UNDERSTAND YOUR MOTIVATION

In a perfect world, nothing would influence our decisions except ourselves and our convictions. Unfortunately, we live in a world that is far from perfect. Too often, other people or circumstances make us feel we have no choice at all. Understanding what’s driving our decision can shed light on why we may feel helpless or out of control. At Starting Point Pregnancy & Family Resource Center, we want to give you back the power so that you can make the best choice that will fit your life and your family, regardless of influences or difficult situations. If you feel overwhelmed, pressured, or hopeless, we want to help.
