Making an adoption plan is an opportunity to give your baby a positive future. You may think that you would never choose adoption for your child, but many women find that adoption is a solution that is good for themselves and for their baby.

How Do I Know If Adoption Is Right For Me?

The decision to place your baby for adoption is not easy. However, many women make this choice and are happy knowing they gave their baby a bright future.

You as the birth mother have the right to make all the decisions when it comes to adoption. Will it be opened or closed? Will it be private or will you use an agency? You are in the driver’s seat when making an adoption plan.  You may be ready to consider adoption if you…

  • Don’t want an abortion but aren’t ready to be a parent
  • Want to provide your child with a 2-parent family
  • Want to provide your child emotional and financial stability
  • Want a life for your child that you know you cannot provide
“It was hard, but at the same time, seeing the happiness on the mom’s face made it worth it. I knew in my heart that he was going somewhere where he would be in great hands. I didn’t want to have that baby, and fall in love, and lose him because of addiction. I wanted to give him something better.”

Adoption Facts

Adoption is not ‘giving up’ your child. It is giving your child a future by placing your baby in a family that you have selected yourself.

You are not abandoning your baby. You will always be the loving first parent who actively participated in planning for your child’s future.

Through an “open adoption” process, you can meet and stay in touch with the adoptive parents that you have selected.

Open adoption can be beneficial for your child who will grow up knowing about his/her history rather than having unanswered questions about the family of origin.

Adopted children grow up knowing that their first parents loved them so much that they made a way for them to have the life that they truly wanted for them.

Adoption is legally transferring parental rights from one parent to another. This is a permanent arrangement.

Adoption is not foster care or “going into the system.”

Adoptive parents undergo a stringent process called a home study to ensure your child’s well-being in his/her permanent home.

You have time. You have time to decide what you believe is best for your baby.

You have a one-of-a-kind person growing inside you. You are carrying someone special and completely unique. There will never be another person just like your baby.
